BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao Friday called for the whole nation to further promote the development of national defense with the help of the nation's economic development.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks during a meeting held by CPC Central Committee Political Bureau ahead of the 82nd founding anniversary of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Aug. 1.     Hu said "the country should take both economic and national defense development into consideration and develop the armed forces featuring an integration of the military and the people."     To realize the goal, efforts are needed in establishing sound weapon systems and equipment research and manufacturing, military personnel training and logistics that combine military construction with people's support, he said.     Emphasis should be made in scientific exchanges between fields of national defense and civilian use.     He further stressed it is the responsibility of both the Party and entire nation to build a powerful and solid armed force and national defense power.

BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top advisory body, held a meeting Monday to study and discuss the essence of the just-concluded Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).     Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting, at which Vice President Xi Jinping delivered a report on the topic. They are both members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.     In his opening speech, Jia highlighted the importance of the CPC Central Committee's session under the current situation as China is exerting efforts to cope with the impact of the international financial crisis in an effective way, maintaining a stable and relatively fast economic growth, striving for new victories in building an overall prosperous society, and opening up a new situation for the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics. BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- China Vanke, the country's largest property developer by market value, announced Monday evening that it had made a net profit of 2.52 billion yuan (368.9 million U.S. dollars) in the first half of the year, up 22.5 percent year on year.     Company revenue in the first half was 21.81 billion yuan, up 26.4 percent year on year, the developer said in its half-year report to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange.     The company sold 3.488 million square meters of housing nationwide in the six months, up 31.2 percent over the same period last year in terms of total sales space.     The Shenzhen-based firm attributed the sales and profit rise to the upbeat Chinese property market performance in the first half, boosted by an array of government measures to bolster the economy and stimulate domestic consumption.     The Shenzhen-listed developer had edged down 0.9 percent to 13.24 yuan a share Monday before the release of the report.

He will also attend a financial summit of the Group of 20 (G20) in Pittsburgh scheduled for Sept. 24-25.     President Hu will attend a UN climate change summit in New York on Tuesday, address the general debate of the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly Wednesday, and participate in a Security Council summit on nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament on Thursday, said Chinese Foreign Ministry officials.     In a note to heads of state and government regarding the summit, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said "the objective of the Summit on Climate Change, which I am convening on Sept. 22, is to mobilize the political will and vision needed to reach an ambitious agreed outcome based on science at the UN climate change talks in Copenhagen."
